Six Fixes for Democracy

Six Fixes for Democracy    . With the Middle East possibly teetering toward democracy, Matthew Cooper looks at the history and future of democracy worldwide, with a particular focus on risks to democracy in the US. He describes six problem areas, and discusses the solutions that have been proposed for each. Gerrymandering, filibusters, failed elections, and special interest influence get special attention, with ensuing spirited discussion. Matthew spent part of his childhood in pre-revolutionary Libya, and parts of his adulthood as a political consultant, a political activist and a staffer for Skeptic magazine.
