Second Annual Carolinas Secular Conference -- Charleston, SC, September 28-30, 2012

"All the godless denizens of the Carolinas--and those who love them--are invited to help double the size of last year's event," said Han Hills, the conference organizer. "We have a stellar program that will make this a trip to remember!"

Organized by the Carolinas Secular Association and hosted by the Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry, this Second Annual Carolinas Secular Conference will be held in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina, at the Charleston Marriott, 170 Lockwood Boulevard. Conference fees are $125 per person or $70 for students (partial fees for partial attendance are available). Rooms are just $122 per night for the length of the event if booked before September 7. The hotel features: swimming pool, whirlpool, fitness center, Saffire Restaurant & Bar, Aqua Terrace Roof-Top Bar, Coffee House, wireless internet, and many other amenities.

Featured speakers include: Edwina Rogers, executive director of the Secular Coalition for America and Maggie Ardiente director of development and communications for the American Humanist Association. Also, former president of the American Humanist Association Mike Werner will be giving a special presentation on starting and growing secular groups and chapters.

The Carolinas Secular Conference is organized to provide a ground for learning and sharing, bringing in speakers to inform and train, as well as awarding grass roots achievement by individuals across North and South Carolina. Attendees will join in a live network of planning to meet the challenges of the next year and the coming decade. A centerpiece will be the Carolinas Freethinker Banquet, designed to become "the" freethought social event of the year in the Carolinas with its fine food, exciting speakers, and high-profile award ceremonies, including the presentation of the Carolinas Freethinker of the Year Award.

Beyond its role as a working event, the Carolinas Secular Conference aims to be a joyous celebration of the growing secular movement and culture and an opportunity for nontheists of all stripes to make new friends across the region.

Last year, at the first annual event, attendees gathered at Carolina Beach, North Carolina, and began to establish a network of communities across the region. Since that time, established groups and programs have grown and new coalitions and groups have been formed across the region.
